Julia PevznerJulia Pevzner was born in Russia and immigrated to Israel in 1991. In most recent seasons she has directed productions of Nabucco at the Greek National Opera in Athens, Das Rheingold and Die Walküre for the Kirov Opera at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, The Queen of Spades at the Dallas Opera, L`elisir d`amore , the world premiere of Michael Shenhav’s Half Moon Tale, Mozart and Salieri and Der Schauspieldirektor for the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Boris Godunov for the Houston Grand Opera, Rachmaninoff’s Aleko and Carmen for the International Opera Workshop in Tel Aviv, the world premieres of Gil Shohat’s The Happy Prince at the Tempus Fugit Festival, Moshe Zorman’s The Inn of Spirits at the Tel Aviv Festival of Performing Arts, a double bill of Menotti’s The Medium and The Telephone and Dido and Aeneas at the Jerusalem Academy of Music.

Miss Pevzner is currently preparing a new production of Eugene Onegin for the Virginia Opera’s 2007-2008 season, and will revive her Boris Godunov to open the San Francisco Opera’s 2008-2009 season.

Miss Pevzner began her career as a House Producer at the New Israeli Opera, and early in her career was Assistant Director to Francesca Zambello whose productions she has revived at the Paris Opéra Bastille (War and Peace & Boris Godunov), the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Queen of Spades), the English National Opera (Khovanschina), and the Bolshoi Theater.

Miss Pevzner is a graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music in St. Petersburg and holds degrees in Piano and Musicology departments. She holds a B.A. degree of the Tel Aviv University in Linguistics and French Literature. In addition to her international directing career, she has led Opera Workshops at the Rubin Academy of Music of the University of Tel Aviv and at the Israeli Opera Studio.
