Born in Moscow as a son of conductor Mikhail Jurowski, Vladimir Jurowski completed the first part of his musical studies in his native city at the Music College of the Moscow Conservatory. In 1990 he moved with his family to Germany where he continued his studies at High Schools of Music in Dresden and in Berlin, studying conducting with Rolf Reuter and vocal coaching with Semion Skigin.
In 1995 he made his international debut at the Wexford Festival, where he conducted Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night. The same year saw his brilliant debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in Nabucco.
In 1996-1997 season Jurowski has joined the ensemble of Komische Oper Berlin. A season later he has been given the title of First Kapellmeister of this theatre. He continued working at the Komische Oper on a permanent basis until 2001. Since 1997 Vladimir Jurowski has been a guest at some of the world's leading musical institutions such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Opera Bastille de Paris, Theatre de la Monnaie Bruxelles, Maggio Musicale Festival Florence, Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro, Edinburgh Festival, Semperoper Dresden, Teatro Comunale di Bologna (where he has served as Principal Guest Conductor between 2000 and 2003). In 1999 he debuted at the Metropolitan Opera New York with Rigoletto and has returned on numerous occasions since.
During recent seasons he made highly successful debuts with such orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic and the Russian National Orchestra, as well as with the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Recent and future scheduled engagements are concerts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Dresden Staatskapelle, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Royal Concertgebouw, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

L’etoile du Nord by Meyerbeer for Naxos-Marco Polo (1996),
Werther by Massenet for BMG (1999), as well as live recordings of such works by Rachmaninov, M. A. Turnage, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Britten on London Philharmonic Orchestra’s own label. His first of a series of recordings with the Russian National Orchestra, featuring Tchaikovsky’s
Suite No. 3 and Stravinsky’s Divertimento from
Le baiser de la fée, was released on PentaTone Classics in 2006 and was followed by recordings of Shostakovich
Symphonies No. 1 & 6 and Prokofiev
Symphony No. 5 in 2007, with the latest disc of Tchaikovsky
Hamlet Overture & Incidental Music and
Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture 1869 released last year.
The DVD recording of Maestro Jurowski’s first concert as the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal conductor was released by Medici Arts in 2008, featuring works by Wagner, Berg and Mahler.
In January 2001 Maestro Jurowski commenced his position as Music Director of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and in 2003 was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Russian National Orchestra Conductor Collegium. In 2005 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra, and a year later he was also announced as a Principal Artist of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Vladimir Jurowski became the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s twelfth Principal Conductor in September 2007.
